When a new health concern cannot wait for your usual appointment, it can be difficult to decide where to go. A walk-in clinic can be a starting point for many non-emergency concerns, but it is not equipped to manage every condition.
What can a walk-in clinic help with?
A clinician may assess symptoms such as a sore throat, cough, ear discomfort, mild skin concerns, or urinary symptoms. They can discuss whether you need treatment, tests, follow-up or a different care setting. Call ahead to ask whether your concern can be assessed that day.
When should you choose emergency care?
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department for symptoms such as chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe bleeding or a serious injury. If you are unsure how urgently to seek care, Ontario Health811 can help: call 811.
