Choosing a care setting depends on the severity of your symptoms and how quickly you need help. A walk-in clinic is intended for non-emergency concerns; an emergency department can assess serious or life-threatening conditions.
Call 911 or go to the emergency department
Examples include chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, signs of stroke such as sudden facial drooping or weakness, severe bleeding, or a serious injury. Do not wait for a walk-in opening if you think it may be an emergency.
When a walk-in clinic may be appropriate
For a non-emergency concern such as a sore throat, mild rash or ear discomfort, a clinician may be able to assess you and advise on next steps. Symptoms can have different causes and a clinic may direct you elsewhere after assessing your situation.
Still unsure?
Call Ontario Health811 at 811 for health advice, or call Eliva Care at 289-409-0090 to ask whether the clinic can see you. Reception cannot diagnose your condition over the phone. For potentially life-threatening symptoms, call 911.
